Lessons

If your child knows his alphabet, he can learn to read music! I have experience teaching young siblings -- if you have a couple of children in need of instruction a group rate is available. I can teach adults as well.
I currently have slots available on most days for in-home beginner violin and piano lessons in Northern Virginia. Rates are $35 for a half hour and $60 for a full hour of instruction. Locations more than 15 miles from Annandale, Virginia incur an additional $10 travel fee. I also provide instruction online on both piano and violin. Online lessons require the use of Zoom and are not geographically limited.
Each student usually starts with two music books that fit their personal skill level, a music manuscript notebook, and a lesson planner. A list of suitable books which can be purchased online will be provided following your first lesson. Each student must provide their own instrument(s). I can provide advice on purchasing or renting instruments and supplies that won't bust your budget while you are learning. I also provides hands-on training on maintaining and tuning your instruments.
My teaching method is patient and tailored to the learning style of my students. Rather than using the cookie-cutter, fierce, rote methods that are so popular in the music store method mills, I focus on building note-reading and musical language skills as well as providing enough challenge and variety to maintain both interest and progress. Please be aware that playing an instrument is a skill that requires reinforcement through practice. With busy lives it can be difficult to build in a daily practice routine, but doing so will yield faster results and a more rewarding experience.

Policy on missed or rescheduled lessons
I know and understand that life has a way of taking away control over things. If you find that you will not be able to keep a scheduled lesson, please try to let me know at least 48 hours prior to the lesson so it can be rescheduled and so I can plan for other activities. If you or your child is ill, I would rather you both feel better before coming to your home.
